All things wood.

Wood, a beautiful natural product, every piece unique. Wood is a living breathing product, even when its made into your furniture. It will adapt to the environment that it is placed in, adapting to temperature & humidity changes. It will contain its own natural characteristics such as knots, splits, shake, grain patterns & cracks. The wood will be carefully chosen for your items of furniture and the above used as one off features, making your item truly unique. Wood will swell a little, as well as shrink a little at times, leading to a small amount of movement and maybe a little surface splitting may occur. This won’t affect the structure of your items only add character to your chosen product.

Mackie Wood Co makes items in many different woods, we love anything wood and love using local grown timber. We also love using reclaimed timbers when they become available. Love an item but its not in your chosen timber, just contact us, we are very happy to accommodate your needs.

It is our recommendation that any of our items are not exposed to extreme heat, for example placed by a radiator, by a woodburner / open fire or in a very hot conservatory. The wood has a greater chance of becoming distorted and Mackie Wood Co can not take any responsibility for misuse or misplacement.

Timber stacks.

Timber in stick and it stacks at one of my local suppliers. This timber is first air dried and then Kiln dried to bring the moisture content of the wood down further.

Wood care.

Mackie Wood Co uses a variety of different wood finishes to protect your items. Each finish is used due to its suitability for the product. Wax is a great finish but not durable enough for a coffee table, where we need to protect against heat and possibly a little water spillage or two! So we use multiple coats of Danish Oil or another suitable furniture oil to protect these items.

Waxed items, to keep your items looking great, add a coat of wax once a year or as and when to keep them tip top.

Oiled Items, just keep them dusted! If they ever need a little re-finish or a touch up, oil finishes will just blend in to the existing finish. No need to strip it all back and start again, its why we won’t use varnish!

Anything kitchen related, we make chopping, cutting, serving, cheese & charcuterie boards are finished in a food safe oil. They are heavily saturated in oil, but we would recommend adding a little oil every now and then depending on how much use and abuse your boards get!

Cutting timber.

Timber being cut the way it should be, by another of my local wood suppliers. Timber shopping for us is a wonderful day out! We can search through the available boards and choose what’s right for each and every product. It really is like being a kid in a sweet shop!!
